EP 64: from destination weddings to daily routines: hannah rosser’s journey to sustainable success
Hey everyone! I’m so excited to share about my recent conversation with the incredibly talented East Coast wedding photographer, Hannah Rosser. Together, we explore the ups and downs of building a sustainable creative business, as she shares her unexpected venture into destination weddings, the personal challenges that made her step back and refocus. She also shares tips on everything from setting up workflows, staying organized with Notion, and email templates to carving out time for self-care.
Meet Hannah Rosser
Hannah Rosser is an East Coast-based destination wedding photographer whose artistry has taken her to stunning locations worldwide including Italy, Thailand and beyond. In addition to her photography career, Hannah is deeply committed to educating and empowering fellow photographers and enjoys sharing her expertise, techniques, and creative insights.
From Destination Weddings to Coaching
Hannah didn’t set out to become a destination wedding photographer, but couples fell in love with her unique style and started inviting her to shoot in far-off places. Her first destination gig was in Mexico, then it was off to Thailand, and so on. While traveling for work was a dream come true, it also showed her how important it is to strike the right balance between work and personal life.
Navigating Life’s Challenges
This year brought personal challenges for Hannah, prompting her to pause and refocus on what mattered most—her family and well-being. She reminded me that sometimes life gives you unexpected curveballs that put everything into perspective. It’s okay (and even healthy!) to step back from the business spotlight to take care of yourself and your loved ones.
Finding Balance in Business
One of the big takeaways from my chat with Hannah was how crucial it is to have systems in place. She loves tools like HoneyBook and Notion, both of which help keep her client interactions and personal workflow in check. When things get hectic, these tools ensure that nothing (and no one) slips through the cracks.
Notion for Organization
If you haven’t tried Notion yet, Hannah swears by it. It’s her digital command center for everything—from scheduling shoots and travel to tracking her to-do list. Setting up structured systems doesn’t just keep you organized; it creates a business environment that supports both your clients and your personal life.
Hannah’s Tips for Sustainable Success
Finding balance is definitely a work in progress, but Hannah shared some awesome strategies that help her keep a healthy perspective:
1. Document Your Workflow**: Writing down every single step in your client process can highlight where you might need extra help or more organized systems.
2. Use Email Templates**: Save time and maintain consistent communication by using templates you can personalize as needed.
3. Schedule Smartly: Rely on scheduling tools to automate follow-ups and manage appointments, so you’re not juggling everything manually.
Looking Ahead: Workshop in Tuscany
Hannah’s next big adventure? Co-hosting a workshop in Tuscany, Italy, with Kaylee Taylor. It promises to be a game-changer for anyone wanting to up their wedding photography game, refine their technique, or broaden their business horizons.
Wrapping It Up
Chatting with Hannah Rosser was a welcome reminder that success in photography (and life) is about more than just booking clients and hitting financial goals—it’s also about creating a life where your personal and professional worlds can thrive together. With thoughtful systems in place, plenty of boundaries, and strong relationships, you can keep your business running smoothly without sacrificing your well-being.
Feeling burned out or overwhelmed? It’s totally okay to step back and recenter. After all, your happiness, well-being, and time are just as essential as the beautiful work you deliver to your clients. Let’s keep working toward a balanced, fulfilling path—together.
Thanks for tuning in to Hannah’s story. I’d love to hear how you’re balancing your own photography biz with your personal life. Reach out on social media, and let’s chat!
