EP 66: life updates: embracing parenthood while running a creative biz

Hey everyone! I’m so glad to be back on the mic for another episode of Summer School. Today’s update is a bit different but still super exciting—it’s all about my transition into motherhood, getting back into the podcasting groove, and juggling my entrepreneurial life with a brand-new baby. Let’s catch up!

Hello to a New Chapter

I prepped a bunch of episodes to cover my break, and it feels so good to be talking with you again. The last few weeks have been a total whirlwind—most notably, we welcomed Georgia Grace on December 21st. She’s been bringing a whole lot of joyful chaos to our world, and Jake and I are soaking in every crazy and beautiful moment as first-time parents.

Adjusting to Parenthood

The biggest change? Definitely sleep (or lack thereof!). Before Georgia, Jake and I were total night owls, but with our little one ready to party at all hours, we’ve had to switch things up. Now, our mission is to sync our rest with Gigi’s schedule.

Of course, sleep is just part of it. Our entire work routine has shifted, too. Thankfully, Jake has been an amazing partner, taking on morning shifts so I can get a bit more rest. It’s all about teamwork these days as we find our footing between baby cuddles and creative projects.

Embracing the Unexpected: My Birth Story

My labor experience was equal parts peaceful and surprising. I went into it a bit clueless about what actual labor would feel like, so when the doctor said it was time (complete with a slight dip in Georgia’s heart rate), it all happened so quickly! Luckily, my amazing medical team kept things calm, and I was blissfully unaware of most of the stressful parts—they made sure we had a safe and memorable delivery.

A Soft Maternity Leave

As a business owner, I couldn’t fully step away for a traditional maternity leave, so I opted for what I’m calling a “soft maternity leave.” I’m still involved in the business, but in more of a slow, family-first pace. Georgia’s naps pretty much dictate my work blocks, and Jake and I have been using that time to keep everything rolling—planning fresh content and brainstorming new projects. It’s definitely a balancing act, but we’re making it work!

Rediscovering Personal Hobbies

Before baby, I loved baking, painting, and skateboarding with Jake. While these have taken a slight backseat (babies, am I right?), I’m excited to weave them back in eventually—maybe even try out a mommy-and-me Pilates class! Parenthood doesn’t mean completely losing yourself; it just means finding creative ways to integrate what you love into your new normal.

Bringing More Eyes to Your Work

I’ve gotten questions about getting more visibility online—Google Ads might help, sure, but in my experience, it’s all about truly knowing your audience and focusing on platforms that resonate with your brand. Mastering a couple of specific marketing channels (instead of trying everything at once) can really help you stand out and connect with the people who matter most to your business.

Looking Ahead

Diving into this new chapter of life as a mom and entrepreneur has been wild, but also incredibly energizing. It’s shaping not only how I live day-to-day but also how I dream and plan for the future. If you’re also balancing parenthood or big life transitions with a creative career, know that you’re not alone—there’s a whole community of us out here, navigating the ups and downs together.

I can’t wait for next week’s episode and to share even more of this journey with you. Until then, take care—and if you’re in this same boat, give yourself plenty of grace. We’ve got this!
