EP 49: you asked I answered: photography questions straight from instagram

Hey guys, it's Summer Grace! I’m back with a new episode of Summer School, and today I’m diving into some life updates and answering your questions from Instagram. Let’s get into it!

Life Update: Weddings, Pregnancy & LA Heat

Right now, I’m sitting on a yoga ball in this sweltering LA heat—definitely feeling the glamorous side of being pregnant while running a photography biz! I just got back from a wedding shoot in Maine, and let me tell you, the 5-hour plane ride while pregnant was an adventure. But the wedding turned out beautifully, despite a wardrobe malfunction (only one of my dresses fit!).

What’s the Plan After Baby?

I’ve been getting a lot of questions about what business will look like after the baby arrives. We’ll be cutting down on weddings—10-15 a year instead of 30-40—and focusing more on education and passive income, like this podcast. Plus, my mom has graciously offered to help with childcare during destination weddings. We’re still figuring out the rest, but we’ve got time!

Advice for Budding Photographers

If you’re new to shooting weddings, it’s totally okay to showcase your second-shooter work. Just be confident when presenting it to potential clients, and hire a second shooter for extra peace of mind if needed.

Balancing Stress & Creativity on Wedding Days

I thrive under the pressure of weddings! My tip? Get the must-have shots first, then get creative if you have extra time. Even five minutes with a couple can produce some incredible images.

Settling into LA

We’ve been in LA almost a year now, and it’s starting to feel like home. Our new place is family-friendly and peaceful, and I’m excited to make more local connections. If you’re in LA and want to grab coffee or collab, hit me up!

Working with Jake

Jake and I get asked a lot about working together full-time, and it’s all about balance. He handles the backend—emails, contracts, all that fun stuff—while I focus on shooting and clients. It works for us, and it lets me have more time for my students and creative projects. Plus, he’s the genius behind this podcast’s tech stuff!

What’s Next?

We’re prepping for the baby’s arrival, cutting down on travel, and ramping up education. Jake’s also working on his music, so if he goes on tour, we’ll figure out how to juggle everything. But for now, we’re just enjoying this phase of life and business.

That’s all for now! Thanks for tuning in, and keep those questions coming. Follow me on social to stay updated, and keep an eye out for our YouTube launch soon!

Until next time,

Summer
