EP 50: mastering money mindset for Creatives: a chat with inframes photography

Hey friends, Summer Grace here! Welcome back to another episode of Summer School. Today, I’m SO excited to share my conversation with someone who’s not only an amazing photographer but also a dear friend—Morgan from In Frames Photography. Even though we’ve only known each other for three years, it honestly feels like a lifetime! We’ve been through so many different stages of life together, from workshops to personal milestones, and it’s been such a beautiful journey watching her grow.

In today’s episode, we dive into a topic Morgan has become super passionate about recently—money and developing good financial practices. But hold on, because her perspective on money isn’t what you might expect. It’s not just about numbers or saving strategies (though we talk about those too!). It’s really about shifting your mindset, creating a healthy relationship with money, and learning to see it for what it really is.

About Morgan:

Morgan is a destination wedding and family photographer based in the stunning Utah mountains. She describes her unique style as gritty elegance, blending Vogue-like candids that capture the raw honesty of human connections with a sultry energy and a love for bold contrast and drama. In addition to her photography career, Morgan has spent years as an educator, teaching others about branding and developing a healthy relationship with money. A passionate dog mom and a fan of the unconventional, she is dedicated to helping others embrace their authentic selves both personally and professionally.

How It All Started

Morgan and I actually met at an in-person workshop a few years ago, and wow, we hit it off immediately. We laugh now about our first impressions of each other, and how meeting in real life was such a positive, down to earth experience - and that energy has stuck with us ever since.

Why Money Mindset Is So Important

Lately, she’s been talking a lot about something that resonates with me too: money mindset. For her, it’s not just about managing your finances but really understanding the why behind how you view and use money. She shared how her own journey with money has changed—from making a fast rise in her career to realizing that she needed a deeper, more meaningful relationship with how she handled her finances.

The Shift from Scarcity to Abundance

One of the things we really dove into was shifting away from a scarcity mindset. Both of us grew up with a certain level of anxiety around money—Morgan more so, coming from a background where money was tied to fear and survival. She talked about how growing up with a single mom shaped her early experiences, and I could relate in so many ways.

But here’s where things change: Morgan learned to shift her perspective, and now, she’s all about seeing money as a tool that helps you, not something to be afraid of. We talked about how money should flow, in and out, and how that shift in mindset can really empower you in life and business.

Some Key Takeaways from Morgan

Set Your Goals: Morgan is a firm believer in writing down your goals and speaking them into existence. Your goals should reflect who you are, not what others think you should do. It’s about being intentional and aligned with what feels right.

Gratitude is Everything: One of the most powerful tools in shifting your mindset around money is gratitude. Morgan says—and I totally agree—when you’re grateful for what you have, the universe opens up more opportunities for you. It’s a game-changer!

Invest in Yourself: Instead of just using money to pay bills, think of it as a tool for growth. Whether that means upgrading your equipment, outsourcing, or taking that course you’ve been eyeing, those investments in yourself and your business can lead to bigger things down the road.

Respect Your Money: Think of money like any other relationship in your life—you’ve got to respect it, understand it, and communicate with it. Don’t let it control you. Instead, let it help you make decisions that serve your long-term vision.

Real Talk

Morgan shared some real-life examples of how her new mindset has transformed her business, and honestly, it was so inspiring. She talked about choosing projects based on passion rather than the paycheck, and how those decisions ended up opening even bigger doors. I could relate too—I’ve seen how investing in things like better gear or outsourcing tasks has not only elevated my work but freed up time for me to focus on what matters most.

Keep Learning and Growing

Morgan and I both agree—whether it's books, podcasts, or workshops, learning about money is a lifelong journey. There’s always more to discover, and the more you grow, the better you get at handling your finances. Morgan shared some of her favorite resources, and we’ll make sure to link those in the show notes for you.

Wrapping It Up

At the end of the day, your relationship with money is just that—yours. It’s personal, ever-evolving, and always worth improving. Morgan and I hope our chat today helps you think differently about money and maybe even inspires you to make some changes in how you approach it.

You can find Morgan literally everywhere under In Frames Photography. She’s on Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, and of course, her website inframesphotography.com. She’s also got some exciting projects coming up, including her second preset pack—so stay tuned for that!
